Biography

Mrs. Deepika Udayakanthi is a Senior lecturer in Sociology at the Department of Social Sciences in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. She received her first degree, Bachelor of Arts (Special) in Sociology with First Class Honors from the Faculty of Social Sciences, the University of Kelaniya in 2010.  She has completed her Master of Social Sciences Degree Programme with a research component in 2016 from the University of Kelaniya. She has joined as the Post of Temporary Lecturer of the Department of Social Sciences in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka in 2013, and she was able to attach the department as a probationary lecturer in 2017. Before she becomes a lecturer, she has joined various research institutes and has done researches in a variety of subjects related to sociology, both individually and in groups. Also, she has delivered lectures on behalf of the public sector in addition to university students.

  • Working as a research team member  (From 2020 to Present)

Participating as a research team member in the  research on “The Human Elephant Conflict in Sri Lanka” conducted by the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka and Kasel University in German . This project is currently in the final stages of field study. This research explores the true nature of the human-elephant conflict and why this problem has not yet been resolved

  • Working as a research team member   in the Research on Socio-Ecological embedddedness in water quality management (From February in 2021 to Present)

National level and university level research contribution:

  • Prepared the Development Plan – October in 2016

I have prepared the development plan which was submitted to His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka in October in 2016 in collaboration with the Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni). It has included suggestions for the enhancement of living conditions base on the Bogaswewa Sinhalese people, Vavuniya during the post war period. (This Development Plan is related to the survey on a “Research project to identify the development and historical background based on Bogaswewa, Vauniya district during the post war period”.)

  • Prepared the Survey Report – November 2016

Prepared a survey report on the reasons for the loss of moral among the armed forces personnel assigned to the Wanni Security Forces Headquarters during the post war period.

  • Project coordinator for the National Province for the preparation of the National Skills Report in 2015.

I have worked as a project coordinator of the National Province for the survey related to food and beverage, rubber and plastics, automobile repair and maintenance and printing and packaging establishments, conducted by the Skills International Institute in collaboration with the Ministry of Tertiary Education.

  • Participated as a research team member

Participated as a research team member for the “Research project to identify the development and historical background based on Bogaswewa, Vauniya district during the post war period”. This project was conducted by the Rajarata University in collaboration with the Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni).

  • Survey coordinator for the Tele-center (Nenasala) Impact Evaluation Survey from February to May 2013

I worked as the coordinator of the Southern Province for the Tele-center Impact Evaluation Survey project conducted by the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka.

Coordinated the continuous Social Impact Assessment (SIA) of the North East Housing Project (NEHRP) in the Trincomalee District and submitted its financial progress under Phase V. (Engaged twice as Assistant Coordinator of this project)
