Biography

Prof. E.M.S. Ekanayake currently serves as a Professor in Sociology and Criminology and Head at the Department of Social Sciences, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. He obtained his first degree, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Sociology in 2001 at the University of Peradeniya. Subsequently, He joined the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ-IFSP) as a Community Mobilizer in 2001 before his graduation. After graduation in 2002, he assumed duties as an Assistant lecturer in the Department of sociology, University of Peradeniya. While working at the department, he completed his Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) degree in sociology, which led to a revealing intellectual undertaking of Sri Lanka Ethnic Conflict. While, he was working at the University of Peradeniya, Prof. Ekanayake joined as a permanent Lecturer in Sociology in the Department of Social Sciences, RUSL in 2005. With this training and exposure, Prof. Ekanayake travelled to China to pursue a Doctoral study under a scholarship offered by the Chinese government. After obtaining his Ph.D., Prof. Ekanayake was awarded an “Excellent International Student Award” by the Central China Normal University. After completing the Ph.D. at the Central China Normal University, Prof. Ekanayake was recruited as a visiting lecturer at the School of Sociology in the same university in 2017. He worked in that position for some time and taught a course on Sociology of South Asia and Development. After returning to Sri Lanka, he worked as a visiting lecturer in several Sri Lankan universities. He has published 3 books and over 30 Index and Peer review journal papers during his academic career.
