Lower Malwathuoya Basin Archaeology (LMBA) Project: Yodhawewa Archaeological Excavation Conducted by the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Management, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka.

The archaeological study carried out in the first quarter of 2018 at the Yodhawewa area near Mannar has provided many unique facts based on ‘Round-bottom extraction furnaces’ for the first time in Sri Lanka. More than 3500 wide range of artefacts and nature-facts represented, many types of slags, crucible fragments, various types of grinding stones, Turbinella pyrum sea-shells, local and foreign earthenware, some metal fragments, and wooden charcoal by this premises. The beta-analytic institute of America determined that premises to 1st to 9th centuries AD. In particular, the discovery of carnelian beads, rouletted ware and some of the porcelain in this site indicates that Yodhawewa, not an isolated production centre, and it has long existed as a sub-productive place for the international productions near the Mannar port of Sri Lanka. The research and publication committee of the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka contributed financially to the field work and basic analysis of this research. The project Director, Senior Lecturer WMTB Wijepala is carrying out the geological analysis of LMBA project at the Department of Earth science Laboratories of Shimane University, Japan.
